Quantity Surveyor – Mechanical & Electrical Construction

Boise, ID | Contract-to-Hire | 24-Month Project

This is a highly field-oriented position focused on verifying installed mechanical and electrical quantities and certifying contractor monthly payment applications under a unit-rate contract. The ideal candidate has a background in estimating, quantity surveying, cost control, or construction project controls and is comfortable spending significant time walking an active construction site validating completed work.

Candidates with approximately 5–7 years of construction estimating, quantity surveying, or related experience are encouraged to apply.

What You'll Do

• Perform field walks to verify quantities of work actually installed by mechanical and electrical trade contractors.
• Validate installed quantities including items such as:
• • Process piping and tubing
  • Conduit and electrical installations
  • Ductwork
  • Mechanical systems
  • Other measurable MEP construction scope
• Review and certify monthly contractor pay applications based on verified installed quantities.
• Build and maintain detailed unit-rate workbooks in Excel .
• Develop unit rates based on labor, materials, equipment, overhead, and other applicable project costs.
• Measure completed work using agreed units such as linear feet, pounds, inches, and other applicable quantities.
• Prepare and review Bills of Materials (BOMs) and associated unit-rate information.
• Price and evaluate change orders and additional work using established unit rates.
• Monitor actual construction costs and quantities against project budgets and contractor billing.
• Review contractor productivity and compare performance against applicable industry standards such as MCAA and NECA .
• Support the evaluation, defense, or rejection of contractor claims using field-verified quantities and project documentation.
• Work closely with construction, estimating, cost, and trade contractor teams.

What We're Looking For

• Approximately 5+ years of experience in quantity surveying, estimating, cost control, construction project controls, or a related role.
• Experience with mechanical and/or electrical construction strongly preferred.
• Ability to read and understand construction drawings, scopes of work, BOMs, and contractor billing documentation.
• Strong Excel skills , particularly for developing and maintaining cost and unit-rate workbooks.
• Experience reviewing quantities, unit rates, pay applications, change orders, or contractor claims.
• Comfortable spending significant portions of the workday walking an active construction site and physically verifying installed work .
• Strong attention to detail and ability to reconcile field conditions with contractor billing.
• Semiconductor, advanced manufacturing, industrial, cleanroom, or other large-scale construction experience is a plus.

Position Details

• Location: Boise, Idaho
• Duration: Approximately 24 months
• Employment: Contract-to-Hire only
• Overtime: Straight-time overtime
• Local candidates preferred
• Per diem available for qualified travelers
